Indications
Listed in Dosage.
Dosage
Female infertility 1.25 mg for 1st few days then increase to 2.5 mg bid-tid. Male infertility 5-10 mg/day. Galactorrhea &/or amenorrhea 1.25-2.5 mg once daily for 2-3 days then increase to 2.5 mg bid. Prevention & suppression of lactation 2.5 mg daily for 2-3 day then increase to 2.5 mg bid for 14 days.
Precautions
Hyperprolactinemia (possible pituitary tumour); Peptic ulcer or gi bleeding; CV & liver disease, history of psychotic disorders; affects ability to drive or operate machinery; mastalgia & nodular cystic breast alterations (exclude malignancy). Pregnancy, lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Gl disturbances, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension; syncope, headache, drowsiness; dry mouth; altered liver functin tests; dyskinesia; CNS disturbances; leg cramps (reduce dose); peripheral vasospasm (prolonged use).
Interations
Phenothiazines, butyrophenones, thioxanthenes & metoclopramide may reduce the prolatin-lowering effect of bromocriptine. Erythromycin may increase bromocriptine plasma conc. Tolerance may be reduced by alcohol. |
